Weekly News & Insights: Shows in the Spotlight

November’s big show merger story was the announcement of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) purchasing the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS), a racing trade show held in Indianapolis. The IMIS will be combined with the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show for one big racing industry show in Indy in 2013.

While the Outdoor Retailer expo has been considering a move to Denver, the Sourcing Snow show will be coming to the Mile High city. The show, which is produced by SnowSports Industries America, will be held in tandem with the SIA Snow Show from Jan. 31-Feb. 3 at the Colorado Convention Center.

From snow to water … VARTECH recently hosted about 1,400 attendees for their conference and expo aboard a cruise ship, the Carnival Imagination. As attendees cruised the exhibit floor, the show itself was cruising the Atlantic Ocean between Miami and Nassau, The Bahamas. Talk about a captive audience!

So how do you make a chocolate expo even better? Team up with another chocolate expo! This fall, the National Chocolate Show and the Chicago Fine Chocolate Show came together for a dual trade/consumer show at Navy Pier where anyone was welcome to see and sample tasty new treats, as well as meet chocolate artisans. Perhaps the beginning of a new trend for other industries to cross the trade/consumer line?
