Recently a client told me she’d been getting a lot of emails about buying the attendee list for an upcoming show and wanted to know which one she should choose. I told her to stay away from all of them!
Here’s why: there are a ton of scammers out there who claim to have a list of attendees, but they really don’t. Oh sure, the pitch sounds legit, but in reality, they’re selling some kind of list – just not the actual attendees from the show. For that, you need to contact your show organizer to acquire the official list. (And these days some shows won’t even release the list due to privacy restrictions.)
If you’d like to know more about how these shady list brokers operate and how you can protect yourself from them, Chris Tremblay from Event Technologies wrote an article sharing findings from his company’s investigation.
