Weekly Insights: CEIR Index Shows Industry is on the Rebound

Road to recovery

The light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel may finally be approaching for the trade show industry, which is definitely good news!

This month, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) held their Predict Conference and unveiled the second quarter results of the 2022 Index.

According to those results, cancellation rates for physical in-person events in Q2 2022 fell to only 2% compared to a whopping 66.2% in Q2 2021 and the unthinkable 100% in Q2 2020. Of all shows originally scheduled to be held in Q2 2022, only 0.6% were postponed, 1.9% were cancelled and 97.5% were completed as scheduled.

The CEIR Total Index – a measure of overall exhibition performance – comes in at 25.5% lower than 2019 levels, which shows the industry is steadily improving. And attendee numbers are leading the way, with 10.5% of completed events surpassing their pre-pandemic levels of the CEIR Total Index.
